Painting for me is like an emotional journey of colour, light and atmosphere transferred to a blank canvas. I paint quickly and vigorously to start with to cover the canvas with the basic tones I need, then I add some detail to pull the overall composition together. It is important for me not to lose the sense of emotion and life created by sea, sky and landscape. Bold application of colour through brush strokes , palette knife and fingers is essential for creating the feeling I want to convey.

My painting experience started when I brought my father who was an accomplished watercolour artist to a watercolour workshop in Connemara. I decided to sit the course myself and was immediately taken by the feeling of capturing a landscape on paper in watercolours. Artist Brian Thatcher was teaching the workshop and was an absolute inspiration. I dabbled in watercolours until I attended oil painting classes with renowned artist Philip Gray, only then did I discover the sheer pleasure and raft of emotions that comes from painting in oils. The last couple of years under Philip's guidance has been an amazing journey. Philip is a wonderful artist and teacher, and has helped me develop my on style while painting with sheer abandon. The collection of paintings in my gallery depicts the journey I have been on since starting with Philip, which I hope you will enjoy as much as I have.
Featured in the photo are myself and Philip Gray(on the right) at the opening of my exhibition.

Included also are some examples of commissions which I have done for clients.
